Aberdeen University Combined FITA - 22nd December 2003
(A report by Jo Bathgate)

For the last shoot of 2003, 6 members of SGB arrived early (well 5, Kev was late!) to help set up the hall for Aberdeen University Archery Clubís Combined Fita. Tam and Ian didnít shoot though (only staying ‡ an hour) leaving Mel, Jo and Kev to lead the way. Hamish was also due to shoot but was in bed suffering from a 24 hour bugÖ So no compound medal there then! (Which he could have got because GCUís Ronnie Taylor missed 3 times!) John was Judging along with Bill Gilchrist.

We got underway pretty sharp at 10am (I think, this is now New Year and I canít remember much due to alcohol!) on the Fita 25. Out of all the competitors, only 4 or 5 made the effort to have Christmassy thingsÖ Mel had her quiver in a stocking, Jo had tinsel stuff on her longrod (of which, spares went roundÖ) and Jack Stott of Broch had his Santa hat on! As far as I can remember we all shot ok and got through the first half well. No sun in our eyes this year as the PE department had put up film on the windows to reduce glare. Also the fact that the snow threatened a few times (and succeeded!) didnít bother anyone, though if it did they didnít let on.

As the second half commenced, the leader board was called out (as there was no pen for the white board at all!) and we found that Mel was doing fairly well, who ended up second Lady. Jo ended up with a scare at one point when the leader board was wrong and she thought she was in 3rd place at the end of the 7th dozen! (The scorer read out the 6th Dozen total for Angela Munro (?) from Lethan instead of the 7th! Grr!)

In the end Kev won longbow, well he was the only one! And Mel got Second Lady (with a miss!) and Jo was well down the field but had bettered her PBís for Fita 25 and Fita 18! In the raffle we didnít win anything despite spending around a tenner between us.

Hopefully we do better at the first shoot of 2004, a handicap match against Lethan Archers.
